Signs & street art in Oaxaca

on Inspiration

I am no sign writer, but I always admire traditional hand painted signage when I see it. Sign writing has become something of a lost art here in Australia thanks to the rise in vinyl signage, but I saw it everywhere in the colourful streets of Oaxaca, Mexico.

Brightly coloured buildings around the central town have beautifully lettered signage in all different styles, often offset with intricate street art stencils, stickers and wall paintings. I found the combinations of colours, styles and shapes so inspiring that I couldn’t help capturing them for later inspiration. It’s so easy to get caught up in the circle of Pinterest and Instagram where things can get very same-y, so I love to get a fresh perspective from a different source.

Here’s some of my favourites in case you find them inspiring too!

P.S. If you’re curious, more photos from Mexico over on my personal blog, ChiGarden.
